EFESC Background
The need for a EUROPEAN CHAINSAW CERTIFICATE (ECC) or ‘licence’ has been proposed by various organisations, individuals and at meetings for a number of years now which has led to the development of EFESC. EFESC is the European Forestry & Environmental Skills Council primarily tasked with the management and quality assurance of land-based skills certification and recognition throughout Europe.
- The ‘roots’ can be traced back to meetings between the UK National School of Forestry, Danish School of Forestry & the Scottish School of Forestry in the UK in 1997
- International Conference on ‘safety & health in forestry’ held in France in 2007 which led to:
- A Brainstorming Conference in Belgium in 2008 (Led by Inverde & IPC)
- Various follow-up meetings held Switzerland in 2008, Holland in 2009, Germany in 2009 (1st EU pilot test undertaken by Billy Robb-A1 Arborists, UK)
- Funding preparatory meeting Denmark in 2009 (A1 Arborists, Danish School of Forestry & Inverde) led to:
- Leonardo project submission and funding approval (A1 Arborists) UK in 2009
- First project development meeting Belgium in 2009
- Further development meetings have taken place UK in 2009, Spain in 2010, Denmark in 2010 & Belgium in 2010
- EFESC was successfully Founded in the Czech Republic in 2011
